Sue Medley joined the Husson Volleyball program in March 2026, bringing more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience and a distinguished record of athlete development, program building, and leadership.
During her collegiate coaching career, Medley served as Head Volleyball Coach at Saint Mary's College, Cornell University, and the University of Maine, and as Assistant Coach at Kansas State University. She is widely recognized as a passionate teacher of the game, a mentor to student-athletes and coaches, and a builder of competitive, team-centered cultures.
At the University of Maine, Medley launched the institution's inaugural NCAA Division I volleyball program and guided the Black Bears to an America East Conference Championship in just the program's second season. While at Maine, she mentored an AVCA Northeast All American, Conference Player of the Year, numerous All Conference and All Rookie athletes, while establishing a culture of excellence both on and off the court. During her tenure, volleyball student-athletes included a UMaine valedictorian, an NGWSD Outstanding College Student in Maine, multiple M Club Senior Spirit Award Recipients and 38 America East Academic Honor recipients.
At Cornell University, Medley led the Big Red to a first-place Ivy League regular-season finish and a 20-win campaign while mentoring multiple All-Ivy and All- Ivy Academic All-Ivy selections. During her tenure at Kansas State, she helped guide the Wildcats to a successful non-traditional season, including a historic win over Nebraska, in the highly competitive Big Eight Conference. At Saint Mary's College, she led the program through its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III while building a consistently competitive program that never lost to a Division I opponent. In two decades of collegiate coaching, Medley’s teams have never held a cumulative GPA less than 3.2.
Following recovery from a serious illness that caused her to step away from the University of Maine, Medley entered the private sector where she worked in strategic planning, leadership development, and market intelligence for numerous businesses. In the non-profit sector, her work focused on strategic planning, board development, and fundraising.
Eager to stay involved with the game, Medley directed the IREVA High Performance Volleyball Program for USA Volleyball, helping more than 300 athletes pursue collegiate volleyball opportunities at every NCAA division level. Many of these athletes now coach high school, club, and college programs. She also served in various capacities as a consultant and coach at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, FL for several years.
Founder and Principal Consultant of Gladjean Consulting, Medley has spent the last 10 years working with some of the top collegiate and club athletic programs in the country at all levels of competition working with athletes, coaches, and administrators developing leadership skills, high performing cultures, leaders, communication strategies, and competitive excellence.
A former volleyball student-athlete at the University of Notre Dame, Medley earned her MBA in International Business from Kansas State University and a master’s degree in financial economics from the University of Maine.
Medley's contributions to the sport have been recognized with numerous honors, including USA Volleyball's Meritorious and Bronze Service Awards. She has previously served as a member of the NCAA Volleyball Rules Committee, a voter for the AVCA/USA Today Division I Top 25 Poll, and a liaison to the Maine Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Co-Founder of the Maine Volleyball Coaches Association.
